
Roni Burks was destined to style and design. Styling for the entertainment and corporate industries alike, while consulting on everything from clothing, makeup, even hair, Ms Burks has been a major player in this fascinating industry for over 15 years. Her expertise in this ever evolving industry has been unsurpassed with her clientele from actor Terrance Howard, to country singer Wynonna Judd; Ms Burks has styled and created images for the best.
In 1989 she began her career as stylist for the group Atlantic Starr. Shortly after MCA Records executive Lou Silas hired Roni to work with various artist such as the group Guy, and rapper Heavy D.
In 1991 Ms Burks branched off on her own as the demand for her unprecedented eye swiftly increased. It was inevitable for her to become an independent and launch her own company, 4 Behind the Scene, Inc. Because of her keen eye for style, Ms Burks was fortunate to have an array of artist and industry personalities to her credit. The first on her roster to produce a tailor made image was for the super R&B group, The Whispers.
It was inevitable that she incorporate designing in her practice, as she began to realize with the uniqueness of her clients, sometimes even the most renowned couture designers couldn't accommodate them. Her challenge was the various shapes and sizes, individual styles and cultures, and it was imperative that Ms Burks provide the perfect look to custom fit each with classic individuality, while maintaining their personal integrity and style.
From there she met and began styling for gospel singer BeBe Winans, and was commissioned to style and image produce for him and sister CeCe Winans. Public relations executive Sheila Eldrige introduced Ms Burks to Shiba Haley, who was very interested in her expertise to style and create a new image for her artist Yolanda Adams.
Introduced to Naomi and Ashley Judd in 1995, Roni was hired for a family project. Wynonna Judd was impressed with her work and hired Ms Burks on the spot for her tour and CBS special. Shortly after, she was honored to custom design the wedding gown for Wynonna in 1996. As set dresser for CBS's Young and the Restless daytime soap, Roni earned her union accreditation as costumer in 2001.
Her work has been featured on various award shows such as The Grammy's, The American Music Awards, VH1 Honors, American Country Music Awards, Celebration of Gospel, and many more. Gospel singers Donnie McClurkin, Kirk Franklin and Tonex further proved her ability to meet the needs and bridge the gap for every genre.
Her National Commercial credits include Chrysler, Infinity, Sprite and McDonalds, with ad campaigns for companies such as Upscale, Ebony, Keyboard Magazine, Essence, and Skechers which displayed her talent and diversity in fashion on a corporate level. Her style was also featured in the 2005 release of the motion picture, The Gospel.
From 1996 though 2004, Ms Burks styled for and traveled on tour with artist and entertainers such as Whitney Houston, Chris Tucker, Toni Braxton, Kenny G, The Winans Reunion Tour, among others. After observing her amazing work and designs, manager Lynn Mabry for Sheila E. contacted Ms Burks in 2003 to style her client for a major ad campaign. Impressed with her work, Ms Burks became her personal stylist to date.
In 2005 Roni Burks was Assistant Designer on the Motion Picture "The Gospel", in 2008 & 2009 Costume Designer for BET's Sunday Best Season 1 & 2, and Stylist for Sheila E. on The Next Great American Band.
Currently Roni is the Costume Designer for the Monique Show, the Head Designer for the television show "Without Prejudice", and for the Reunion World Tour of BeBe and CeCe Winans.
